To you fools in Dr. Knox's 2:30 GEOG 1112 class
To all of you girls who will not SHUT UP during lecture...LEAVE. I understand that this is a freshman level class and you probably haven't figured out yet that college is not like high school, but is it really that difficult to be quiet when the teacher is lecturing? I sit in that class three times a week having to listen to you talk to each other THE ENTIRE TIME. It is RUDE to Dr. Knox & to your fellow students. How about skip class & go have your gossip session in your dorm room?

Old Ladies
I was in line to buy a lamp at a local thrift store today for lunch when an old lady behind me jumped line. I wanted to say something but thought that would be mean as she was old and humped like a whale. She then tried to pay for a 25 cent ice tray with a $20 bill causing massive confusion from the cashier (no registers). I dropped the cashier a5 for the lamp to hurry and leave but when I came up to the exit a car with a handicap plate was blocking it. That same old lady made it to her car first, pulled out of the space, and blocked me in the parking lot. There was only one way in or out. I'm assuming she was looking for her glasses, for 2 or 3 minutes, which stoked my anger since I was going to be late getting back to work. Finally, after all that quick moving to get in front of me in line, then quickly getting out of her parking space to block traffic, she goes 15 mph up the road ignoring the 35 mph speed limit. This actually gave me a taste of road rage.

At this stage I can only follow my grandmother's own way of dealing with goofy people who you should never show anger towards, "God bless her heart." I just needed to rant. I feel much better now.
10/24/2008 - I would have been cussing and banging my fists on the wheel! OOH I'm mad just reading this! I hate how people can be so oblivious to the fact that other people indeed exist, and have things to do. I feel like I probably pay too much attention to other folks while driving, I guess to make it interesting.

Yes she's old, but I can still get mad-I'd never 'let here have it' or anything violent, and age is an excuse, but driving is one thing that really gets to me!
11/04/2008 - only one comment... "speed LIMIT" not speed suggestion... it is perfectly legal to go 15 in a 35 (though annoying!)... only if there is a minimum speed posted is it illegal to go below that speed...
11/05/2008 - They should at least give warnings to people who drive like this; I think it could get them to pay a little more attention to how annoying they are

Captcha Phrases
Please explain to me why they can't make the letter O distinguishable from the number 0 or why they sometimes make the letter G look like the number 6.

I know you're* trying to stop bots but the thing IS supposed to be readable by humans.

*"You" = anyone using Captcha on their web site, not just here. In fact, the G/6 problem doesn't happen here.
10/21/2008 - just read a bunch here. you're kind of a tard. just fyi.
10/27/2008 - I'm pretty sure the person who left the 10/21 comment doesn't even know what Captcha means.
10/28/2008 - It just took me 4 times to get the phrase right to post my rant about people stopping on crosswalks. It's pretty unsatisfying when you're trying to angrily get your point across and then it takes several tries to post it. It's the typographical equivalent to not being able to get the door to slam after an argument.
11/15/2008 - Before this falls off the front page I want to say that the last line in the previous comment is funny and true.

...and I just got caught by the O/0 thing. Or the I/1 thing. DAMN!

Obama, the NAACP, and Lies
Obama has nothing going for him other than being a good orator (If reading a teleprompter is being a good orator) and being a minority.

Everyone is applauding that we are being so progressive to elect a black president.

It annoys me how the black community has spent decades preaching equality. MLK said that he dreamed of a day when all men would be judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Take your own advice NAACP, SCLC, and other African American Organizations. Stop preaching how it is time for us to have a black president while at the same time preaching it doesn't matter what color sombody's sin is.

During the main push of the civil rights movement, and in the following years organizations like the NAACP had a purpose and a noble goal. To provide for the advancement of people of color that had actually been oppressed.
No one is being oppressed in today's society for being black, asian, or any other ethnicity.
Organizations like the NAACP pushed for a program called affirmative action. Which simply stated that companies, businesses, and other programs had to hire a certain number of minority candidates.
This has done a terrible disservice to the African American community. I would be ashamed to apply for a job if I were black under affermative action. Without affirmative action, businesses had to hire the best applicant. With affirmative action it is impossible to know if you were hired because of the content of you character or the color of your skin.
People can argue to this day about the equality of white and black society, but the fact of the matter is that in the America of today every person has the same opportunity regardless of skin color to fulfill their hopes and dreams. There are poor people in both races that have a disadvantage, and there are wealthy people in both races that it is easier for them to fulfill their dreams.

Equality exists. The NAACP and other groups that are pushing for equality have succeeded. Once equality is reached anything further is superiority. That makes the NAACP the new KKK. While they are not inspired by the hate and evil intentions that the KKK was and is, the NAACP still wants a similar thing, the increased support for the African American Community, and the cost of the others.
The NAACP does not seek it means through the fear and threat of violence that the KKK uses. The NAACP only uses threat of legal action.

If someone were to argue the lack of inequality for the African American community. I would arque the following.

Are there any policies promoting the hiring, or admissions of white students.
Alpha Phi Alpha, Zeta Phi Beta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, the Black Student Council, and other African American organizations are hypocritical to policies and goals of the NAACP.
Would it be allowed to have a White Student Council, a Caucasian Caucus, NAAWP, Fraternities and Sororities promoting White Heritage. What is there were scholarships that were promoted solely for White Males?

The only thing holding back the black community are these organizations focusing on fixing the problem from the outside and not the inside.

Listening to other members of the black community talk about Obama representing black community and the pouring out of support from Oprah and other members just because he is black.

NAACP if Obama is elected, wheel out your aircraft carrier announce "Mission Accomplished". If a black person can get a nomination from one of the parties, then you have no case for inequality.
10/15/2008 - Although I do agree with many of the points put forth.....the gentleman completely lost me when he stated..."No one is being oppressed in today's society for being black, asian, or any other ethnicity". I initially thought this person was open minded. Instead...his comment confirms that he is beyond naive....and certainly a white male. We have come a long long way since MLK Jr., but certainly we are not at the point where we can say that NO oppression exists......ESPECIALLY IN THE SOUTH.
10/15/2008 - Individuals may oppress other individuals, but the Original post is 100% correct. People of all races face challenges and adversity to succeed in life. Tell me why a minority student cannot succeed in life. To say that a minority student can't succeed would imply that race matters and if you are a minority you cannot succeed. This further implies that minorities have lower intellect and lower drive. Any of those factors come from the parents.
I grew up in south Georgia my parents were on welfare for several years and eventually wound up working several minimum wage jobs. 80 hours a week each. I worked my way through my undergrad and received and graduate assistant ship and will be graduating in 2 years with my PhD. By the way I am black. Oppression does not exist, at least not the way the above commenter said. The only oppression are the lazy people who stay on welfare and do not try to better themselves.

10/16/2008 - The post about Berry Berry Kix (or the lack there of) has way more merit than this post.

10/17/2008 - I agree. I'm voting for Berry Berry Kix. It has a plan for global warming and health care like no other I've seen.
10/21/2008 - The Berry Berry Kix post's argument was much more logical, persuasive, and grounded in reality.
10/24/2008 - I'm assuming the original poster is of the Cockasian persuasion. Take a Val man and watch some Oprah. You need some stress relief.

Berry Berry Kix!
I cannot find it anywhere! that junk was sooooooo goood!
Does anyone know if anywhere in Athens has it? Amazon sells a 5 box pack for like $20 (ouch!)
10/12/2008 - I think they discontinued it. It was SO good though!
10/15/2008 - I personally miss dunkaroos =(
10/17/2008 - Oh yea! I used to love those things. Does anyone remember Koala Marches? Those Koala cookies with chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry in the middle?
10/24/2008 - I recently bought Boo Berries again when they were on sale at Kroger. I found them disgustingly delicious.
10/24/2008 - I found some on sale at Walmart...they make your milk taste like delicious obesity! :D
10/24/2008 - Yeah but it's walmart....
Are they that 'unhealthy?' I figured they'd be better than trix and other fruity blast cereals...
10/24/2008 - Ohh no, I wasn't talking about Berry Berry Kix. I'm talking about Boo Berries cereal which is full of marshmallows. Mmmmm....
10/26/2008 - To the person that wants Koala Marches-- you can get them at Fooks Foods on Baxter Street! YUUUUUM.

Who remembers the EXACT date they moved into a place they were living at for 7 years? Why aren't the dates in the mm/yyyy format like the rest of the graduate school application?
09/30/2008 - this has happened to me so many times so i feel your pain. i usually just put the first of the month that i moved. like if i moved sometime in march, i put march 1st.
10/22/2008 - just put the first of the month and year like everyone else with common sense does.
10/22/2008 - Douche.....bag.....
10/27/2008 - Oh yeah, putting false information on an application is such a good idea. Does common sense tell you to lie about your qualifications too?
11/18/2008 - You take yourself way too seriously and are looking way too far into the application... Every other human doesn't care, including the person who will barely skim it in the admissions office.

"Pain Management" Doctors
How crooked can you be? I think all "Pain Management" really is is a scam. Doctors see patients for a few minutes, write them Rx's for a multitude of Narcotics, with no regard for their health. I work at a pharmacy, and we see way too many sad addicted cases coming in daily. This type of 'healthcare' needs reform bad, and probably many arrests. I recall on one day, we saw at least 4 or 5 patients within 30 minutes of opening, each with at least 3 Rx's for narcotics. (Meaning that the doctor had time to see this many patients in 30 minutes and give them 'adequate healthcare')Oftentimes, these people will decline to fill the rx's for non-narcotics. What's even more 'fun' is watching their doses go higher and higher, or the amount of tylenol they take daily teeter near the maximum dosage. I often wonder how many of these patients actually are in pain, and aren't just selling, and how many are just plain addicted. Something needs to be done. I don't trust all these people out and about on methadone for a 'knee injury.'
With luck, in 20 years we will look back and realize how ridiculous this practice is, akin to bloodletting and head-boring.
09/29/2008 - i think you are right about how many people do abuse pain management doctors... but there are people that really need this treatment... and as far as time it takes to make a diagnosis... that is up to the specialist... i've worked with eye specialists, and they see patients between 5 and 10 minutes... so 30 minutes is a very long time...
09/30/2008 - I meant that they saw 4 or 5 patients AT LEAST in 3o minutes time, so thats ~6-8 minutes per patient. And I'm sure there are people who need it, but I just cannot fathom giving up that easy, and going on constant narcotics.
09/30/2008 - "I just cannot fathom giving up that easy, and going on constant narcotics."

The patients aren't "giving up". People have been conditioned not to question their doctors. A friend of mine was recently given a prescription antibiotic and he didn't even tell her what it was for! You usually don't even get to hear the diagnosis unless you ask at the end of the visit.

Most people would rather get a one time or short term treatment to get rid of their pain than just take pills for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately, doctors are trying to see as many patients as possible in a short amount of time and it's faster to write a prescription than it is to investigate what the cause of the pain is.

Sarah Palin
I really don't get what people see in this woman. She is a small minded person with little to no experience. It pisses me off that people are actually going to change their vote to vote for her...
09/19/2008 - i'm not voting for mccain, i'm writing in palin for president
09/20/2008 - and obama has so much more experience.... hypocrites
09/22/2008 - What I am sick of is Palin saying McCain is more qualified because he fought in a war.
Who.
Cares.
09/22/2008 - Well let's be fair, she can almost see Russia from Alaska so that must make up for the fact that she doesnt have that much experience right?
09/23/2008 - Um yeah, Im pretty sure Obama does have more experience.

Governor of 3rd smallest state for a year ish <<<<< Senator for one of largest states
09/29/2008 - Obama definitely has more experience.
10/06/2008 - Guess its too bad most of that 'experience' Obama has was used so productively to vote 'present'
10/15/2008 - Last time I checked retard, Alaska is the largest state!
Democrats don't know Geography! If you are going to say it is the 3rd smallest. specify population or landmass to keep from looking like a moron.
10/17/2008 - Democrats don't know geography?! It's so obvious they were referring to population. You would have to be an idiot to think that they were talking about size.
10/21/2008 - Thank you for that last comment. I really, for a moment, felt as if the Earth was spiraling into oblivion or Hell...either one. It was hard for me to understand how someone could think, when dealing with politics, that land mass was really what mattered. I knew that it was simply implied. Why would one have to mention he or she was specifically talking about population? It makes no sense. But then I thought, why even comment? The world will be ending shortly. Now that it hasn't really ended, I feel confident enough to post something knowing it will be seen. So here it is....

What the F**K?! Really?
10/28/2008 - Yeah-McCain really fought and served his country like many others in the past and present. What have you done to enjoy your freedoms in this country?
10/29/2008 - I was in the military for many years. However, fighting for my country did not make me worthy of being the leader of this country. My military experience would not make me a good president. And your comment (above poster) is inconsiderate. Just because someone has not fought for their country on a battlefield does mean they don't deserve freedom. There are other ways of fighting Enjoying freedom and not letting someone take it away is a way to fight. What have YOU done? Being in the military makes you no better or worse. And it makes you no more worthy of enjoying freedom.

Get on the sidewalk
If you are going to ride a bike (which I think is awesome and very eco-friendly of you) please ride on the sidewalk. I know that bikers have the same rights as drivers but I also know that when I bike I always use the sidewalk when possible and it's really no worse than road and you have a less likely chance of being killed by a car. I think biking/walking/skipping around athens are all really wonderful but I also nearly have a panic attack every time some biker decides to ride on the street and I have to nervously pass them while trying to avoid on coming traffic. And don't get all "share the road" on me; you know it annoys you too.
09/04/2008 - It is illegal to ride on the sidewalk dumbs***!!! thats why people bike on the raod!!!
09/04/2008 - wow that last commenter is angry. i love when people get so angry at online strangers; its really mature.
09/04/2008 - Unless I was told wrong, you only have to ride your bike on the road downtown. Plus, the odds of a cop doing anything if they see you riding on the sidewalk are kind of low. I ride to school and ride on the sidewalks all the time if I'm not downtown (and there's a sidewalk there). No one has ever bothered me. I do it because I don't want to die, and because yes, as a driver, it annoys the crap out of me when bikers going 6 mph take up a lane, especially on Prince, Broad, etc. I know you run the risk of running into people or cars pulling out of narrow streets/driveways on the sidewalk, but you also run that risk with parked cars pulling out in front of you on the road but with cars going 50 right next to you.
09/04/2008 - ya the law about riding your bike on sidewalks only applies in "downtown proper". The poster wasn't saying riding bikes is bad or annoying just that its impractical for cars and bikes to share a road and clearly if there is a collision its not going to be the car that is hurt.
09/04/2008 - ya the law about riding your bike on sidewalks only applies in "downtown proper". The poster wasn't saying riding bikes is bad or annoying just that its impractical for cars and bikes to share a road and clearly if there is a collision its not going to be the car that is hurt.

09/05/2008 - use the bike lane- that's what its for. Otherwise, use your judgment, but personally I prefer the road, as riding on the sidewalk can prove dangerous to pedestrians and to you (the biker) if a car decides to suddenly turn right and doesn't see you (he is much more likely to see you if you are on the road).
09/15/2008 - bikes on the road are fine as long as you obey the same laws. INCLUDING stopping at stop signs and red lights. If they don't, they should get a ticket just like other riders on the road in cars. Period.
09/15/2008 - I have never understood why drivers hate cyclists so much? is it some sort of 'macho' thing? Or is it just a redneck thing? As a driver and a bicycle rider, the only time cyclists annoy me is when they ride abreast, thus taking up a larger, if not all of the lane. As for myself, when I ride, I always defer to cars. I let them have the right of way/ go through stopsigns first. And yes I run stopsigns, but I do that in a car too.
09/25/2008 - As a bicyclist, I refuse to ride on the sidewalk. The ups and downs as it enters/exits the road are painful, annoying, and unsafe at speed. I commute on my bike, and speed is of the essence.

Oh, and if you are nervous passing a bicyclist, it is because you are uncomfortable driving your car. Buy a smaller car, or get off the road. EVERY road in Athens has lanes large enough to pass a cyclist without coming to a crawl. If the thirty+ people that passed prior had no problem at all, I don't understand how you could.
10/02/2008 - I drive a small compact car and I'm a good driver. Perhaps my nerves about passing come from not wanting to kill someone or get killed myself because I had to swing out into the other lane. What I don't understand is this, there are not only speed limits on roads but also speed minimums right? If bicycles are supposed to obey all traffic rules does this one not count? Look I understand people are going to bike around Athens and as a general rule I think that is great but that doesn't negate the fact that it makes me super nervous when I am driving down Springdale (which by the way is NOT wide enough to pass safely without entering oncoming traffic) and a biker refuses to move over tighter to the curb.
10/02/2008 - Speed minimums, I believe, only exist on the interstate.
Too bad it still seems like people don't follow them, especially in the fast lanes! hah
10/14/2008 - As a runner and a biker, I really dislike having to move off the sidewalk to let a biker pass. That is ridiculous! Why should I have to move off the sidewalks for someone who should be on the road with the rest of the bikers? Athens is made to be a bike friendly town. I feel really safe on the roads for the most part. Roads are for wheels and sidewalks are for feet. Thats an easy rule of thumb!
