Just some stuff I've experienced while in Athens

I love my little dog. Sadly, the only pet store near where I live is Pet Supplies Plus, and to be honest, my dog hates it there. Last time we went there, she peed on the floor and expressed extreme displeasure while in that store. Don't know what it is that bothers her, the people who work there, or the crazy nuts in the hospital next door. Honestly though, the employees there don't seem very enthusiastic animal lovers anyways, only students reluctant to come to work to get a pay check. Whatever it may be, I think it's an energy my dog doesn't like, and I won't be going there again. I'm not trying to bash them or something, well... maybe a little. It's nice to know the employees there are offer to clean up after your animals' accidents, but if you're an owner who would let someone else clean up after your pets' messes, you probably shouldn't have a pet... just saying. But that's just my experience though. They are close to Kinnicun's though... :P, I like kinnicun's.

However, I discovered a store that's past the Sam's Club, Mary's Tack and Feed, and I've got to say she (the dog) loves it! Nice people ( better looking people) and definitely higher quality service. I get her nails cut there and everything; $20 lifetime cuts, it pays for itself. Most of all, I think the people who work there probably get paid more and have more experience with animals. My dog always gets treats when she goes. She's always excited to see the people there, and she's always pulling me inside the store. She has probably associated the smells with treats and happiness or something stupid like that. I just wanted to let the people of Athens know that they're doing a great job. I'm definitely a repeat customer. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who owns a pet. I just think that my dollar is better spent there and I just feel that its good karma to get the word out.

The Pet Smart on 316 ain't too bad either.

In retail, you always hear about the bad s**t that happens, and rarely do you hear about the good stuff people do.

I haven't been to the pet store near the Home Depot in a while, but from what I remember it was dark and small. That dentist office in that area is a douchebag too. The quick lube on Atlanta Hwy, with the car wash f**ked up my fiance's car once. The idiots there... eh, well, they're idiots; in the lube, not the wash.

You know, this was originally about my dog and pet stores I've been to, but it's gone on a tangent hasn't it... I'll shut up now.

Downtown Post Office Hours SUCK

8:30 - 4:30 M-F
5:00 AM - 11:00 AM Sat; closed Sunday

These hours make it really inconvenient for a working person to check their da*n post office box. There's no way I can check mail during the week, unless I want to either be late for work or leave work early- leaving Saturday morning the only time for me. Great, now on my little time off from work, I have to kill my relaxing Saturday morning to go to the post office. If you're a minute late on Saturday morning the doors are locked tight.

I used to love the convenience of the post office, but they've managed to ruin it.

Can't they at least stay open AFTER work hours during the week- if only on Friday?!?! What about a little longer hours on Saturday? Some more human hours like 9a.m. til 2 p.m. This all really pisses me off.

02/08/2010 -

They don't keep their doors unlocked for PO boxes? That's retarded. If I were you, I'd use the one on on Alps.

02/08/2010 -

Those are Post Office hours. The employees at the downtown Post Office are extremely friendly and helpful to everyone, while still managing to get through the line very quickly. The other day I went there to mail 2 packages and buy stamps and I still had time to run my car through the wash and vacuum it at that place on Broad during my lunch hour. I'd tried to take the packages to the Alps office the day before and waited in line until I had to leave to get back to work.

Kudos to the dntn Post Office employees. They make a chore enjoyable.

02/08/2010 -

Nobody is saying these employees there weren't friendly. This is about their hours...

I will switch to Alps for my PO box the first chance I get.

02/08/2010 -

Just to add, I'm *think* the reason the downtown post office starting locking their doors is because homeless used the place a lot and got into the habit of urinating all over the floors. I remember getting a shock sometimes when I went there to check my box and saw a guy hunched in the corner, and I am sorry for their plight- but the lock up reaction to that situation I don't think is fair to owners of PO boxes.

Again, NOTHING, to do with the friendly employees, I like them as well as you do girl.

I MUST HAVE CHECKERS

Dear SUV driver who decided that was swerving around before turning straight into my lane when you were exactly beside me so that you could go to Checkers:

I hope you enjoyed your Checkers. I also hope that you die. You're lucky that I actually didn't decide to drink before driving, unlike you. Otherwise you would have hit my car and had to pay more in insurance premiums as well as have a DUI on your record. Though I'm sure someone as irresponsible as you already has at least one DUI and probably no insurance. Once again, I hope you die.

Sincerely,

Humanity

Jack@ss in a Jeep on Prince Ave

How about checking to see if no one is in the next lane before you dice your car over? Oh, and get off the g0dd@mn phone while your at it. Idiot.

02/06/2010 -

These cell phone a**holes should just stay in one lane while their doing their oh so important calls. I wish I had a s**tty old truck to drive around just so I could bash in their f**king cars when they pull that crap.

Hubris

There is no person more cocky than one who has just gotten their degree.
That, or a first-year law student.

You clearly don't spend much time near the pharmacy school.

Lumpkin Street idiots

I get so f*cking frustrated every time I am on Lumpkin crossing Broad Street because some idiot decides to sneak over to the right hand turn lane to bypass everyone in the straight/left turn lane so they can go straight across! The RIGHT arrow is there for a reason!
I especially hate it when I have to shift lanes and turn right onto Clayton because there is some jerk in the lane who ISN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THERE. Waiting a few seconds behind the rest of us in the CORRECT lane won't kill you.

02/02/2010 -

but thats not the way the road used to be. back when there were no bike lanes.... only a distant memory now... and lumpkin was 4 lanes

02/02/2010 -

But it might kill a pedestrian someday. And to the first comment, I think bike lanes (anything to reduce cars on campus) is a good thing. Plus, it really doesn't matter how it "used" to be. Not that you're really saying it does....

Oh, and I really hate Lumpkin b/c of how students will use the bike lane as a parking lane to pick up their friends.

02/02/2010 -

ME TOO. I'm the original poster and I usually ride my bike. It's kind of scary/frustrating when you have to stop on a hill that steep because someone doesn't understand what the bike lane is for.

and yeah, so what if it used to be 4 lanes? That's irrelevant. The arrows are very clear and easy to understand. Not abiding by them is dangerous, especially in an area so saturated by cars, bicycles, pedestrians, etc.

WRECKS! EVERYWHERE!

I hate to put yet another vent about the terrible drivers around here on this site, but I passed no less than 3 wrecks TODAY on the way to school and back - one of which was in the parking lot of my apartment complex. Seriously, Athens, this is getting old. Because one day, it'll probably be my car that gets hit, and even if it isn't, traffic sucks enough around here without having to crawl past wreck after wreck everytime I try to go somewhere. So maybe it's selfish, but can you PLEASE watch what the hell you're doing when you drive?

02/03/2010 -

Is it just me or did people's ability to drive around here take a sharp nosedive in December? Judging from the other vents here, I think it's not just me.

02/06/2010 -

If you subtract the student population in Athens, the average IQ scores for this town are somewhere slightly above 'retarded.' So stupid drivers aren't much of a surprise.

Needs or Wants?

"Politicians never accuse you of 'greed' for wanting other people's money - only for wanting to keep your own money." -- Joseph Sobran

I think the same applies to gutterpunks.

Hit and Run

To the Motherf*cking CockSucker who hit my car and decided to not leave their information... f**k you. f**k you Very Much.
